Coaching Workouts

Coaching workouts are reusable workout templates for clients. They live in your coaching library, can be scheduled on any client’s planner, and can stay linked so later template changes sync to assigned workouts.

Exercises in Coaching Workouts

Exercises let you prescribe structured training for clients. You can:

  • Use existing exercises or create new ones
  • Configure sets, reps, weight, duration, distance, and rest
  • Add alternates for substitutions
  • Use RIR or RPE effort targets where supported
  • Reorder exercises by dragging

See Exercises and Effort Tracking for the detailed tracking workflows.

Managing Categories

Categories organise coaching workouts by type, such as Strength, Endurance, Technique, or Recovery.

To manage categories, go to Coaching -> Workouts, open the menu, and select Edit Categories.

When you change a coaching workout’s category, linked client workouts update automatically.

Assigning to Clients

There are several ways to assign coaching workouts:

  1. Direct scheduling - Enter Coach Mode, click a day in the client’s planner, and choose the workout.
  2. Templates - Apply a Template to schedule a structured block.
  3. Bulk add - Use Bulk Add Workouts to schedule repeated workouts across multiple days.

Linked Workouts

When you assign a coaching workout, it can stay linked to the original template. Linked workouts are ideal when you want to keep control of the workout content and push updates to clients.

Linked workouts:

  • Receive updates when you edit the source coaching workout
  • Show a linked badge to the client
  • Preserve client personal notes
  • Prevent clients from editing core template details until they unlink

Unlinking Workouts

Clients can unlink a workout to make it independently editable.

Open the workout

The client opens the linked workout.

Access the actions menu

Click the three-dot menu in the top right.

Choose Unlink Workout and review the confirmation message.

Confirm

Confirm the action. The workout becomes independent.

What Happens When Unlinking

  • The workout keeps the current template content
  • Client personal notes are merged into the workout details
  • The linked badge disappears
  • The workout becomes fully editable and can be duplicated
  • Future changes to the original coaching workout no longer affect it

Unlinking is permanent. To reconnect a client to the template, assign the coaching workout again.

Orphaned Workouts

If the source coaching workout is deleted, assigned linked workouts become orphaned. Clients can unlink orphaned workouts to regain full editing control.

Editing Coaching Workouts

Open any coaching workout to edit details, category, duration, exercises, widgets, owner notes, or instructions. Changes sync to linked client workouts.

⚠️

Editing a linked coaching workout can affect every client using it. Create a separate coaching workout when only one client needs a variation.

Client Experience

When clients receive a workout:

  • It appears on their planner for the scheduled date
  • They can view instructions, exercises, widgets, and notes
  • They can complete sets and log tracking data
  • They can add personal notes
  • They can unlink if they need an independent copy

Tips

Use clear names Clients see the workout name on their planner and in workout pickers.

Include enough detail Add sets, reps, rest, effort targets, and context so the client can complete the session confidently.

Use linking intentionally Keep workouts linked when you want updates to propagate. Let clients unlink when the workout needs personal changes.

Communicate changes If you update a linked workout, let clients know through Messages.
