Coaching Workouts
Coaching workouts are workout templates that you create and assign to clients. Unlike personal workouts, coaching workouts live in your coaching library and can be scheduled on any client’s planner. When a client receives a workout, they can complete it, track their data, and add personal notes.
Creating a Coaching Workout
Go to Coaching Workouts
Navigate to Coaching → Workouts from the sidebar.
Click New Coaching Workout
Click New Coaching Workout in the top right.
Fill in the details
Enter a name, description, category, and estimated duration.
Add widgets
Add any widgets you want clients to fill out — logbooks, measures, sliders, etc. See Widgets for available options.
Save
Click Create to save your coaching workout.
Workout Details
Each coaching workout includes:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The workout title clients see |
| Description | Instructions, notes, or context |
| Category | Organises workouts by type (Strength, Endurance, etc.) |
| Duration | Estimated time to complete |
| Widgets | Data collection fields for the workout |
Shared vs Non-Shared Workouts
When creating workouts, you can choose whether they’re shared:
- Shared workouts — Visible in the workout library. Clients can browse and schedule these themselves.
- Non-shared workouts — Only visible to you. Assign these directly to specific clients.
Use non-shared workouts for client-specific programmes. Use shared workouts for general sessions any client can use.
Managing Categories
Categories help organise your coaching workouts by type. You can create, edit, and delete your own categories.
To manage categories, go to Coaching → Workouts, click the menu (three dots), and select Edit Categories.
When you change a coaching workout’s category, linked client workouts update automatically. See Coaching Categories for details.
Assigning to Clients
There are several ways to assign workouts:
- Direct scheduling — Enter Coach Mode for a client, click on a day in their planner, and search for your coaching workout
- Templates — Apply a Template to schedule multiple workouts at once
- Bulk add — Use Bulk Add Workouts to quickly schedule across multiple days
Linked Workouts
When you assign a coaching workout to a client, it becomes linked to your original. This means:
- Changes you make to the original automatically sync to the client’s version
- The client sees a “Linked” badge on the workout
- The client can add personal notes without affecting your template
- The client cannot edit the core workout details or duplicate it while linked
Linked workouts are ideal when you want to maintain control over the workout content and push updates to all clients using it.
Unlinking Workouts
Clients can unlink a workout to make it independently editable. This is useful when:
- The workout needs client-specific modifications
- You want the client to take ownership of the workout
- The original template was deleted (orphaned workout)
Open the workout
The client navigates to the linked workout.
Access the actions menu
Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
Select Unlink Workout
Click Unlink Workout. A confirmation dialog appears explaining the change.
Confirm
Click to confirm. The workout is now independent.
What Happens When Unlinking
- The workout copies all current content (name, description, details, duration) from the linked template
- Any personal notes the client added are merged into the workout details under a “Personal Notes” header
- The “Linked” badge disappears
- The workout becomes fully editable and can be duplicated
- Future changes to your original template won’t affect this workout
Unlinking is permanent. If you need to re-link, assign the workout again from the template.
Orphaned Workouts
If you delete a template that clients have linked, their workouts become “orphaned” — still marked as linked but with no source to sync from. Clients can unlink orphaned workouts to regain full editing control.
Editing Coaching Workouts
Open any coaching workout to edit its details, widgets, or category. Changes sync to all linked client workouts.
Editing a coaching workout affects all clients who have it linked on their schedule. If you need client-specific variations, create separate coaching workouts.
Client Experience
When clients receive a workout:
- They see it on their planner for the scheduled date
- They can view all workout details and widgets
- They can add personal notes (visible only to them and you)
- They can mark it complete and log their data
- For linked workouts, they see a “Linked” badge and have the option to unlink
Coaching Widgets
Coaching workouts use coaching widgets, which are templates for the widgets clients fill out. Manage these from Coaching → Workouts → Widgets.
See Widgets for details on widget types.
Tips
- Use clear names — Clients see exactly what you name the workout
- Add detailed descriptions — Include sets, reps, rest times, and any special instructions
- Organize with categories — Makes it easier to find workouts when scheduling
- Keep widgets focused — Only add widgets that provide useful data
- Use linking strategically — Link workouts when you want to push updates; let clients unlink when they need flexibility
- Communicate changes — If you update a linked workout, let clients know via Messages
