Workout Category Management Guide

Categories help you organize your workouts by type, making it easier to track and analyze your training patterns. This guide explains how to create, edit, and delete workout categories in Sequence.

Managing Categories

When on the Workouts page, use the right menu to find the Edit Categories option. Click this to see a list of your existing categories with their assigned colors.

Creating a New Category

  1. Click “Add New Category” - Look for the “Add New Category” button on the Categories page
  2. Enter Category Name - Type a descriptive name for your category (e.g., “Strength Training”, “Cardio”, “Yoga”)
  3. Choose a Color - Select a color from the color picker to visually identify your category
    • Colors help you quickly identify workout types in charts and lists
    • Choose colors that make sense to you (e.g., red for strength, blue for cardio)
  4. Save - Click the save button to create your category

Editing an Existing Category

  1. Find Your Category - Locate the category you want to edit in your categories list
  2. Click Edit - Click the edit button/icon next to the category
  3. Update Details - Modify the category name or color as needed
  4. Save Changes - Confirm your changes to update the category

Note: You cannot edit the default “None” category, which is used for uncategorized workouts.

Deleting a Category

  1. Select Category - Find the category you want to remove
  2. Click Delete - Click the delete button/icon next to the category
  3. Confirm Deletion - Confirm that you want to delete the category

Important: When you delete a category:

  • All workouts assigned to that category will be automatically moved to the “None” category
  • This action cannot be undone
  • The default “None” category cannot be deleted

Using Categories

Once created, categories can be:

  • Assigned to workouts when creating or editing workout activities
  • Used in metrics to analyze your training patterns by category type
  • Displayed in charts showing workout distribution across categories

Tips for Effective Category Management

  • Keep it simple - Create categories that reflect your actual training style
  • Use meaningful names - Choose names that clearly describe the workout type
  • Pick distinct colors - Use colors that are easy to distinguish in charts and lists
  • Start small - Begin with a few main categories and add more as needed
  • Review regularly - Periodically review and clean up unused categories

Default Categories

Every new account has includes pre-defined categories that you can use as starting point for common workout types.
