Messages

Messages let coaches and clients communicate directly within Sequence. You can send direct messages, comment on specific activities, reply to previous messages, and react with emojis to acknowledge or respond quickly.

Messages are available on web only. Both coaches and clients can send and receive messages.

Sending Messages

As a coach:

  1. Go to Coaching and select a client
  2. Open the Messages tab
  3. Type your message and press Send

As a client:

  1. Open your Messages conversation with your coach (the Coaching section is a coach-only area, so it won’t appear for clients)
  2. Type your message and press Send

Messages appear in a threaded conversation view with timestamps and read receipts.

Activity Comments

You can comment directly on scheduled activities. These comments appear in the message thread with context about the activity, including:

  • Activity name
  • Category
  • Completion status

Activity comments help keep feedback connected to specific workouts.

Replying to Messages

To reply to a specific message:

  1. Hover over the message you want to reply to
  2. Click the more options menu (three dots)
  3. Select Reply
  4. Type your response

Replies show a preview of the original message for context.

Message Reactions

React to messages with emojis to quickly acknowledge or respond without typing a full message. Available reactions:

😮Surprised
😢Sad
🙏Thanks / gratitude

Adding a Reaction

  1. Hover over a message from the other person
  2. Click the more options menu (three dots)
  3. Select an emoji from the reaction picker

Your reaction appears below the message. If others have reacted with the same emoji, the count increases.

Changing or Removing a Reaction

  • To change your reaction, select a different emoji — your previous reaction is replaced
  • To remove your reaction, click the same emoji again to toggle it off

You can only react to messages from the other person, not your own messages.

Viewing Reactions

Reactions appear as small badges below each message showing:

  • The emoji
  • The count (if more than one person reacted)
  • A highlighted style if you reacted with that emoji

Filtering Activity Comments

By default, both direct messages and activity comments appear in the conversation. To focus on direct messages only:

  1. Click the settings icon in the messages header
  2. Toggle Activity notes off

Deleting Messages

You can delete your own direct messages:

  1. Hover over your message
  2. Click the more options menu
  3. Select Delete
⚠️

Deleted messages cannot be recovered. Activity comments cannot be deleted from the messages view.

Tips

  • Use reactions for quick acknowledgements instead of typing “thanks” or “got it”
  • The 👍 reaction works well for confirming you’ve seen feedback
  • Use 🙏 to show appreciation for coaching advice
  • Activity comments keep workout-specific discussions organised
