Training Plans
Training plans are pre-built, multi-week programmes you can apply directly to your schedule. Whether you’re looking for a free plan to get started or a structured programme from a professional coach, training plans save you the effort of building everything from scratch.
Finding Plans
Navigate to Plans from the sidebar to browse available training plans. Plans are organised by:
- Free Plans — Sequence’s default plans for bouldering, routes, and combined training
- Purchased Plans — Plans you’ve bought from coaches or training providers
- Membership Plans — Plans included with gym memberships or coaching subscriptions (e.g., Climb Strong)
- Gym Plans — Plans designed for specific gyms (e.g., 9 Degrees)
Previewing a Plan
Before applying a plan to your schedule, you can preview its full contents to see exactly what’s included.
Select a plan
Browse to any plan and click on it to view its details.
Click Preview
Click the Preview button to open the plan preview modal.
Review the content
The preview shows:
- Total number of weeks
- Each day’s scheduled workouts with names, descriptions, and durations
- Rest days marked with a coffee icon
- Notes and coaching instructions
- Week labels (e.g., “Base Week”, “Power Week”)
Close or apply
After reviewing, close the preview or proceed to apply the plan.
The preview shows the plan with dates based on your selected start week. This lets you see exactly which days workouts will land on.
Applying a Plan
Open the plan
Select the plan you want to apply.
Click Apply Plan
Click the Apply Plan button to open the application modal.
Choose when to start
Select when the plan should begin:
- This week — Starts from the beginning of your current week
- Next week — Starts from next Monday (or your configured week start day)
- Future week — Pick a specific Monday in the future
Preview before confirming (optional)
Click Preview in the apply modal to see exactly how the plan will look on your chosen dates before committing.
Set overwrite preference
Check Overwrite any planned workouts if you want the plan to replace existing scheduled workouts. Leave unchecked to merge with your existing schedule.
Confirm
Click Confirm to add the plan to your schedule.
Plan Types
Free Sequence Plans
Sequence offers free training plans for:
- Boulder — Focused bouldering training
- Routes — Route climbing and endurance
- Combined — Mixed boulder and route training
These plans are available to all users and provide a solid starting point for structured training.
Purchased Plans
Plans you’ve purchased appear in the Purchased section. These typically come from professional coaches and training providers who sell programmes through Sequence.
Membership Plans
If you have a gym membership or coaching subscription that includes training plans (like Climb Strong membership), those plans appear in their dedicated section.
Gym-Specific Plans
Some gyms offer plans designed for their facilities and grade systems. For example, 9 Degrees gyms have plans matched to their colour-coded grading system.
Tips
Use preview to check timing
- Preview with different start weeks to find the best fit for your schedule
- Check that hard training weeks don’t coincide with trips or competitions
Start fresh or merge
- Use “Overwrite” when starting a new training block
- Leave it unchecked if you want to add plan workouts alongside existing sessions
Adjust after applying
- Plans aren’t locked — drag workouts to different days if needed
- Delete individual sessions that don’t fit your schedule
- Add your own workouts alongside plan sessions
