Prepare for a Trip or Comp
A trip or a competition gives your training a date to aim for. This guide shows how to put that date into Sequence, plan the weeks before it, and record how it went so the next one goes better. The planning steps are on the web.
Putting the Date In
Add the event
Click the first day of the trip or comp in the planner and select Add event. Give it an Event Name, check the Date is the day it starts, and set Event Type to Trip or Competition. Leave Countdown Display on Daily to show the days remaining, then click Create Event. See Events.
Add a goal
Go to Goals and click New Goal. Describe what you want from the trip or comp, such as “Send my project at Arapiles” or “Make finals”, set Status to In progress, and use the event’s date as the End date. In-progress goals are listed on your dashboard. See Goals.
Planning the Weeks Before
Work back from the date. If you’re following a training plan, preview it with different start weeks until its hardest weeks finish before you leave. If you’re building your own weeks, see Plan a Training Block.
Use the planner to make the build-up easy to see:
- Add a phase for the build-up, such as “Trip Prep”, and a second short one for the last week or two before you go.
- Use Add a week label in the week menu to mark the hardest week “Peak” and the easier weeks before the event “Recovery” or “Taper”.
- Mark rest days for the days you’ll travel and the days you want fresh before it starts.
Link the sessions that matter most to your goal with Link To Goal in each workout’s menu (⋮). The goal’s page then shows what you did to prepare.
During the Trip
Log your climbs in a logbook as you go, from the mobile app if you’re away from a computer. If you log outdoor ascents on theCrag, connect theCrag instead and they’ll import into your logbooks each day.
Afterwards
Record what happened while it’s fresh:
- Open the event from the Events page and add the outcome to its Description, such as what went well and what you’d train differently.
- Add a milestone for anything worth remembering, such as a send or a result, and link it to your goal.
- Update the goal’s status.
- Check Metrics → Logbooks for your grade pyramid and sends from the trip.
Next time, your notes, milestones and goal history are all in one place to plan from.
If you have the Sequence Assistant, it can review your plan against the event and propose changes. See Prepare for a Goal or Event.
