Plan a Training Block

A training block is a few weeks of training with one focus, such as strength, power endurance or getting ready for a trip. This guide takes you from an empty stretch of planner to a block you can follow, then shows how to keep it on track when life gets in the way. The steps are for the web, where all the planning tools are.

Setting Up the Block

Fill the weeks

You can start from a ready-made plan or build the block yourself.

To use a plan, go to Plans, open one, and click Preview. Try different start weeks to check that the hard weeks don’t land on a trip or a busy week. When you’re happy, click Apply Plan, choose when to start, and click Confirm. Check Overwrite any planned workouts if you want a clean slate, or leave it unchecked to keep what’s already there. See Training Plans.

To build your own, create the workouts you need in Workouts, giving each one a category. In the planner, click the first day of the block and use Bulk Add to repeat a workout on the same days each week, such as finger strength every Monday and Thursday. Use Multi Add inside Bulk Add to repeat several workouts on the same pattern. Once one week looks right, you can also use Duplicate week from the week menu to copy it forward.

Mark the block with a phase

Click the first day of the block, select Phase, and give it a label such as “Strength Block”, the start and end dates, and a colour. The phase shows as a coloured band across those days, so you can see at a glance where the block starts and ends. See Training Phases.

Label the weeks

Open the week menu on each week and click Add a week label to name it, such as “Base”, “Peak” or “Recovery”. The labels make the shape of the block easy to read.

Plan your rest days

Click each day you intend to rest and select Rest day. Marked rest days are counted in your metrics, so you can see how much recovery you’re getting.

If the block is building towards something, create a goal with an End date. Then link key sessions to it: open a scheduled workout, open the menu (⋮) and select Link To Goal. The goal’s page collects everything you’ve linked to it.

Keeping the Block on Track

Plans change. These are the quickest ways to adjust without starting again:

  • Move a session — Drag it to another day.
  • Lose a week — If you’re sick or away, use Insert week from the week menu to push everything after it back a week. Phases stay on their original dates, so click the phase and move its end date out to match.
  • Miss a session — Mark it incomplete with a reason rather than deleting it. Over time, Metrics → Incomplete shows whether you’re often overplanning or short on time.
  • Check the balance — Click the Metrics toggle in the planner header to see completion progress, a breakdown by category and your rest days next to the planner. Turning on Show Total Duration in the planner options menu (⋯) shows each day’s total workout time too.

If you have the Sequence Assistant, it can make these changes for you. See Lighten a Heavy Week.
