Onboard a New Client

A client’s first login sets the tone. If training is already waiting on their planner, they can start straight away. This guide walks through setting up a new client in the order that gets them there, using the coaching features on the web. It assumes coaching is already enabled on your account. If it isn’t, see Coaching with Sequence.

Before Your First Client

Some setup only needs doing once, and every client after that is quicker:

  • Workouts — Build your sessions in Coaching → Coaching Workouts. Workouts you assign can stay linked, so a change you make later reaches every client using them. See Coaching Workouts.
  • Categories — Set up your coaching categories so clients’ planners are colour-coded the way you think about training.
  • Templates — Turn your usual first block into a template, with its workouts, notes and phases.
  • Tests — Create test templates for the benchmarks you use, such as a max hang or a pull-up test, so every client records them the same way.

Setting Up the Client

Add the client

Go to Coaching → Clients and click Add Client. Enter their name and email. They start as Pending, which means you can plan for them before they’ve been invited.

Plan their first weeks

Use the Coach Mode selector to open the client’s account. Go to Templates, choose your starting template, pick the date it should begin, and apply it. The template’s workouts, notes and phases are added to their planner. Make any client-specific changes afterwards, such as moving sessions to the days they can train.

Add their tests

While you’re still in Coach Mode, go to Coaching → Tests, open each test you want them to do, and select Add to this client from the menu. Schedule the first test on their planner so you have a starting point.

Invite them

Leave Coach Mode by choosing None in the Coach Mode selector. Then go to Coaching → Clients, open the client, and click Invite. They get an email to create their account. If they don’t respond, you can resend the invitation from the same page. When they sign up, you get an email and they show as Active.

If the client already has a Sequence account, contact us to link it to your roster instead of inviting them.

The First Few Weeks

Go to Coaching → Messages and select the client to welcome them and explain how you’d like them to log sessions. When they write Training Notes on a workout or attach a video, it appears in the conversation as an activity comment, so you can reply to that session directly. See Messages.

To check on their training, open their account in Coach Mode and look at their planner and metrics.

Active clients count towards your coaching bill. If you pause coaching someone, set them to Inactive from the menu on their page. See Billing.
