Move to Sequence
If your training lives in a spreadsheet, a PDF or another app, you don’t have to retype it. This guide covers the ways to bring it across, and what to set up so the rest of Sequence works well from day one.
Choose How to Bring It Across
There are two routes, and you can use both:
- Free migration — For your training plans. Email hello@sequence-app.com with the subject line “Training Plan Migration” and attach your plans, link to them or describe them. They can be PDFs, spreadsheets, Google Docs or anything else. The Sequence team builds them into your account and walks you through it. See Migration.
- CSV import — For your workout library and your history. Import workouts into your library, past climbs into a logbook, and daily metrics such as body weight yourself from CSV files. See Import Data.
Importing Your Data
Workout import adds sessions to your workout library, not to your planner, so it won’t fill in past training. Your history comes across through logbook entries, which become completed sessions on their dates, and daily metrics.
Set up your categories before you import workouts. Category names in the file must match the names in Sequence exactly, so check your categories first and rename or add any you need. For logbook entries, the logbook has to be on a workout already, such as a “Climbing” session. See Logbook.
Prepare the file
Export your data as CSV with a header row. Each import has its own columns. Daily metrics use YYYY-MM-DD dates, and logbook entries use separate day, month and year columns. See File Format.
Try a small file first
On the web, go to Settings → Account, find Data Management, and click Import next to Import Data. Choose what you’re importing, upload a file with just a few rows, and check that your columns are matched to the right fields.
Import the rest
Once the test looks right, import the full file.
Import doesn’t cover test results. To bring across benchmarks such as a max hang, create the test and record your past results with their original dates. The Test Date defaults to today but can be changed. Your progress graph then starts with your real history.
If you log outdoor climbs on theCrag, connect theCrag instead of importing those ascents. You choose how far back to import, and new ascents sync each day.
Setting Up the Rest
Once your data is in, a few minutes of setup makes Sequence more useful:
- Build your workout library — Add the sessions you do regularly in Workouts, with exercises and widgets for what you want to track. See Workouts.
- Add your goals — Create a goal for what you’re working towards, so you can link training to it.
- Get the app — Install the mobile app to log sessions and climbs at the wall or the crag.
- Connect Strava — If you use Strava, Sequence can sync completed workouts to it.
If you joined through Climb Strong, a gym or another training partner, you’re already using Sequence. Sign in with the email you used at checkout.
